Pipeline Integrity

Pipe in Pipe Repair

International Integrated  |  Northeast Alberta (north of Conklin, AB)  |  Fall/Winter 2015

SCOPE OF WORK: Emergency repair of a pipe in pipe, 16’’ inner pipe, 20’’ outer pipe, pipeline that had a loss of containment. Our team worked alongside an engineering firm to build bicep tools to hold the pipeline stress in order to remove the specimen.

CHALLENGES/UNIQUENESS: This was the first pipe in pipe pipeline built in Canada on land and the first emergency repair resulting in very intensive engineering and planning to address the emergency. The location of the project was in muskeg, causing access challenges. The pipeline stresses were unknown, however, the tools that were built could withstand worst-case stress loads. Our Integrity team safely removed the specimen – an accomplishment for this high-profile emergency repair.
