“It will be fascinating to see where the energy industry takes us in the next 10 to 15 years. There is an ongoing shift in the way energy is viewed in our country, including a meaningful focus on utilizing our resources to unlock incremental renewable capacity. We are entering a period of incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to see what role A&B will play.”

When Dean tells his kids what he does for work, he likes to say he tries to make big numbers seem simple. In other words, a typical day for Dean involves overseeing A&B’s financial and corporate activities, interacting with internal and external stakeholders, and team leadership direction. Dean currently leads a team of about 20 employees and continually works hard to create an open, honest and lighthearted environment.

While he’s a big people person, Dean really knows numbers as well. He holds a finance degree from the University of Calgary’s Haskayne School of Business and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2015. He is a proudly born and raised Calgarian and grew up surrounded by the energy industry. After working as a joint venture auditor and then in investment banking, Dean joined A&B as a financial analyst in the fall of 2014. He then held the role of Director of Corporate Development and became Vice-President of Finance in March 2023.

In addition to mentoring employees at A&B, Dean gives back outside the company too. Since earning the CFA charter in 2015, he has been a steadfast supporter and volunteer with the Calgary CFA Society, including as an executive board member and society Treasurer. He also advises start-up companies to help them navigate the early days of business, regularly donates blood, and can be found coaching and playing soccer during the spring and summer months.
