SCOPE OF JOB:

A&B is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our Project Management team in our Watford City, ND office.  The successful candidate will responsible for evaluating and interpreting construction bid documents, specifications and technical drawings and accurately developing successful bid tenders and strategies for small to large sized pipeline and facility construction projects valued from $1M - $50M.

Key Success Factors for this Position:

  • We believe “boots on the ground” field experience in pipeline and/or facility construction forms the core fundamentals of an effective Estimator. As such, we prioritize candidates with field experience in pipeline and facility construction.
  • The ability to evaluate complex bid documents and drawings and determine overall project requirements.
  • Work collaboratively, and develop and maintain working relationships based on mutual respect and integrity.

This position is responsible for providing timely day-to-day implementation, administration, maintenance, monitoring and execution of A&B’s Bid Tender Process.  The Estimator will support A&B personnel through the bid tender phase by reviewing drawings and identifying areas of concern, determining equipment and labour requirements, projecting timelines, preparing cost summaries, contacting vendors and stakeholders and ensuring bids are submitted accurately and on time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the implementation of successful bid strategies by helping to establish and document consistent project estimating guidelines, standards and structure.
  • Preparing complex, detailed and accurate pipeline, facility and fabrication estimates.
  • Conducts a detailed analysis of the contract documents and specifications to determine overall project requirements (bonding, insurance etc.) and identifies any associated risk factors, including monitoring of published addenda that may alter the original scope of the project.
  • Preparing high-level budgetary estimates for pipeline, facility and fabrication projects.
  • Advise A&B Management on the development and execution of SAGD related projects.
  • Participation and contribution to pre-bid meetings, including field office, client and site visits.
  • Assisting with the administration of bid pre-qualifications.
  • Identification of the scope of work based on bid specifications and drawings.
  • Consistent communication with project leads to identify resource requirements and to identify any potential issues and solution.
  • Maintain and update bid statistics.
  • Meet multiple deadlines and ensure tenders are in on time.
  • Participate in any internal meetings regarding, costs, tracking and A&B pre kick off meetings.
  • Contribute to weekly Bid Review Report to be sent out by 9:00am first day of business each week.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information processed as appropriate and adheres to company policies and procedures.
  • Must show respect for the opinions of others and behave in such a way as to ensure an atmosphere free of needless interruptions, difficulty, and/or discrimination.
  • Must receive and provide clear, constructive feedback regarding work performance and be able to provide clarification as necessary.
  • Must perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills:

QUALIFICATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Extensive hands on field experience in a leadership/supervisory role working on pipeline construction projects.
  • 8-10 years’ experience estimating small to large sized pipeline construction projects is required.
  • Relevant degree, or graduate of technical diploma program, and/or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Ability to estimate multiple projects at the same time.
  • A team player with excellent attention to detail, a strong work ethic and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly proficient computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe, Microsoft Projects and Outlook.
  • Experience with Hard Dollar (construction estimating software), is preferred.
  • Aptitude for planning, analysis, and problem solving.
  • Attention to detail and quality of work.
  • The ability to complete projects in a timely manner.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively and courteously deal with the client, employees and the public.
  • Excellent organization and written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, professionalism and be able to work independently.
  • Ability to work under the stress of maintaining proper liaison between department heads, managers, employees, and customers.
  • Ability to exchange information clearly and concisely and to present ideas, report facts, and all other information.

  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift packages and boxes or items up to 30 pounds and carry throughout the office or around job site.
