Tom Arnett - CEO

Tom Arnett is active in energy services as President and CEO of Arnett & Burgess Pipeliners Limited, which is a position he has held for over two decades.

Tom has worked from the ground-up in various capacities in the oil patch for over 40 years, more recently including executive management of several entrepreneurial ventures.  Tom is a visionary and has a talent for assembling the right team to see his projects succeed.  During his tenure as President at A&B he has been responsible for revenue growth of 5900%.

Tom has held several directorships for private companies and a public directorship for Bowridge Resource Group (TSX: BOW), a firm that focused on providing high pressure gas production testing, from 1994 to 2001 when the firm was purchased.

Tom enjoys a successful track record in the Western Canadian service sector, evidenced by his decades long relationships with clients, and suppliers.  He is an avid outdoorsman, has a keen interest in Alberta’s ranching industry, and actively supports wildlife and water conservation initiatives.

 

Carey Arnett - President

Carey Arnett is a third generation pipeliner and began her career in 1997 in technical and business development roles with GreenPipe (a pipeline engineering and environmental services firm), where she proceeded to manage the company's marketing group.  From 2002 to 2004, Carey worked for Ensight Information Services (a geomatics data provider with a focus on pipelines) as Manager of Business Development where she helped grow the company prior to Ensight being acquired by IHS.  Prior to joining A&B in 2007, Carey was a partner in Ross Smith Energy Group's Energy Investment Handbook, an independent publication providing fundamental energy intelligence to institutional investors and executives.  Her focus on strategic development and marketing led to a 100% increase in the service's client base over three years.

Carey has a Bachelor of Commerce (Strategy) from the Haskayne School of Business, where she received the Lawrence Décor Award for Outstanding Leadership.  She is a member of the Canadian Heavy Oil Association, volunteers for mPower Youth Mentoring, and enjoys riding quarter horses in her spared time.

 

Garry Frederick - VP, Operations

Garry Frederick has well over three decades of experience with Arnett & Burgess.  He is a genuine, hard-working leader who has earned the respect and loyalty of his co-workers.  Garry began his career with A&B as a labourer, and moved through positions of: Welder’s Helper, B-Pressure Welder for pipelines and facilities, Superintendent for pipelines and facilities, and General Manager.  Garry has occupied his current position as Vice President, Operations since 1997.

Garry is involved in all aspects of operations including managing project scheduling, estimating, invoicing, quality control and ensuring project completion and customer satisfaction.  He is a B-Pressure Welder, Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), and a member of the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) since 1987.  Garry is an active resident of the community and for a number of years, was a volunteer member with the Sedgewick Golf Club’s executive committee, of which included a tenure as the club’s President.  When field operations are running smoothly, you may find Garry on the course in late afternoons.

 

Kelly Quinn - Marketing Coordinator

Kelly began his career as a Technologist designing pipelines, facilities and gathering systems for major corporations in the energy industry.  He then moved on to start a marketing consulting company of which services offered included the design of marketing programs and training sales staff for several energy services companies.  Arnett & Burgess became a client of his in 1989 and shortly afterwards, he accepted a full time position with A&B as head of marketing.

He has now been at the helm of Arnett & Burgess' Marketing group for over two decades.  During this time he has played an integral role in the growth of the company to where it is today, one of the largest small inch pipeline construction companies in Canada.  He has represented A&B in the USA, Mexico and Canada and is involved in all aspects of the marketing cycle for the organization, including client development, promotion and administration.

Kelly is an avid team roper, golfer and outdoorsman.

 

Jamie Arnett - VP, Finance

Jamie completed his Bachelor of Management at the University of Lethbridge.  He began his career with Arnett & Burgess in 2002.  Jamie has experience as a pipeline labourer which helps him understand the importance of integrating the operations and accounting departments in managing a successful and safe business.  Jamie oversees a highly skilled accounting team which allows A&B to evaluate and streamline business practices that lead to lower end costs for our clients.

Jamie has a true passion for the outdoors and loves to spend his time hunting, fishing, skiing and golfing.  He is actively involved in Alberta’s ranching and farming industries which keeps him busy during his spare time.

 

Ryan Heilemann - Sr. Operations Manager

Ryan has over 15 years of experience in all aspects of pipeline installation, including an extensive background with installing steel pipelines ranging from 2" to 24" and 3" to 12" HDPE pipelines.  He's held such roles as Labourer, Operator, Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager and Construction Manager and has supervised/managed many large crews.

A very valuable addition to the A&B team, Ryan has been involved with several large pipeline installation projects and brings a vast knowledge in the safety, estimating, cost control, building of schedules and completion of QC packages.  Ryan was promoted to his current role of Senior Operations Manager in December 2015.

 

Terry Brodie - Sr. Construction Manager, Sedgewick

Terry manages and coordinates field construction crews in our pipeline and facility departments, assists with projects bidding and monitors and oversees repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment and small vehicles.  In addition, he makes frequent field visits to project construction sites to help ensure customer satisfaction through consistent work quality and promoting safe work practices.

Terry began his career with A&B in 1976 as a labourer and welder's helper and over the years took on many different positions including a boom operator, welding apprentice, field foreman and superintendent for pipeline and facility contruction.  In 1997 Terry's hard work ethic paid off and he was promoted to General Manager and he's recently been promoted again to Senior Construction Manager, based in our Sedgewick office.

Terry is a certified Journeyman Welder, a chairman of the Flagstaff Beef Committee, the Director of the Killam Agricultural Society and a devoted Hockey fan who is also the President of the Killam Minor Hockey Association.

 

Steve Arnett - Sr. Equipment Manager

Steve came aboard in 1997 when he joined A&B's auto shop department.  He then moved on to the heavy equipment division after developing a keen interest in operating heavy equipment.  From there, he became an apprentice mechanic and then moved on to run/operate a field service truck.  His career path ascent continued and Steve held such positions as Shop Foreman-Heavy Equipment, Equipment Manager and more recently was promoted to Senior Equipment Manager at Arnett & Burgess Oilfield Construction where he oversees the Heavy Equipment, Light Equipment and Trucking divisions.

He completed both the Automotive Service Technology and Heavy Equipment Technician programs at SAIT in Calgary, AB and is a Journeyman in both trades.

In his downtime, Steve enjoys the great outdoors and gets his fill through hunting, fishing and skiing, all of which are in addition to farming and ranching.

 

Arnold Foss - HS&E Manager

Arnold began his career with Arnett & Burgess in 1997 as Quality Control Inspector.  In this role, he was responsible for the implementation of QC programs at the field level, completion of the QC programs per requirement of the client and program, conducting daily inspections to ensure welding procedures, material requirements and proper implementation of legislation were carried out as well as completing required ABSA reports.  With this valuable experience under his belt, Arnold was promoted to HS&E Manager, a position he has been in for over 11 years.

As HS&E Manager, Arnold is committed to safety excellence and is responsible for the integrity of construction safety in conjunction with the Alberta Construction Safety Association.  With a determination and focus to have a top-notch safety program in place, Arnold consistently conducts system evaluations and audits and implements any necessary adjustments that are then adopted by Arnett & Burgess employees.

 

Mark McPherson - Senior Integrity Manager

Mark McPherson is A&B’s Pipeline Integrity Construction Manager. Mark has a wealth of experience managing and supervising crews, heavy equipment, and third party contractors. He is the primary contact for several pipeline integrity clients and in this capacity has experience leading all types of pipeline integrity projects, including: smart tool runs, correlation digs, nitrogen purges, pipeline leaks, corrosion digs, wireline jobs, and repair programs. Mark is responsible for final reports, quality control, and cost estimating for the integrity division. His knowledge extends to submeter GPS units and Pathfinder Software, internal and external corrosion analysis, leak repair (by method of line drains and hot taps), hydrotesting, log interpretation and chaining, and typical field agreements. He was integral to developing Arnett & Burgess’ Safety Program as it relates to Pipeline Integrity functions. Mark has managed integrity projects and smart tool runs for some of the largest pipeline companies in Eastern and Western Canada and the United States.

Previously Mark’s career was in the reclamation and conservation industry where he gained experience in field supervision/consulting, soils, vegetation management and working for Oil and Gas companies. Mark is fully ticketed, and has a diploma in Conservation and Reclamation from Vermillion Lakeland College, as well as a certificate in Lease Development and Reclamation from Petroleum Industry Training Service Center (PITS). He grew up on a grain and cattle farm outside Sedgewick, enjoys travel, and most sports ending in ‘ing.’

 

David Hampshire - Project Execution Manager

David Hampshire manages field operations for Pipeline and Facility Construction as well as Transportation Services.  He is highly experienced with managing crews in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan with duties which include bidding, job initiation and crew selection, QA/QC, safety performance monitoring and mentoring, invoicing and client relations.

David began his career with Arnett and Burgess in 1976 as a labourer and in 1979 he became a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.  In 2002 he took on several roles as Sales/Marketing Field rep as well as Superintendent duties for our pipeline and facility departments.  From 2003-2011, David held the position of Construction Manager and was recently promoted to Regional Construction Manager.

When David is not running a grain farming operation he enjoys snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle.

 

Clif Lett - Divisional Construction Manager, Athabasca

Clif Lett joined Arnett & Burgess over 11 years ago. Clif leads field operations, which includes pipeline construction, facility construction, and fabrication projects in the Athabasca and Northern WCSB area. Like most management at A&B, Clif has spent much of his career out on the pipeline.

Clif started his tenure with A&B as a pipefitter & foreman, but his leadership skills quickly earned him a crew. Clif was a superintendent for A&B for 7 years before being promoted to the Construction Manager position in 2007.  He received another promotion in 2011 and is now Regional Construction Manager, Athabasca.  Clif manages estimating, invoicing and human resources for his operating area.

Clif is a member of A&B’s Management Safety Committee, actively enforcing safety policy and regulations and he's also a Jouneyman Steamfitter/Pipefitter with Red Seal distinction.

Clif is originally from Saskatchewan, and enjoys fishing, quading and golf.

 

Graham Hunt - Corporate Development and HR Manager

Graham Hunt is A&B's Corporate Development and Human Resources Manager.  Graham is responsible for recruitment and retention of employees; and in this capacity focuses on development of performance management programs, retention strategies, and supporting training and development.  Graham brings strengths to this role earned through managing diverse aspects of a vehicle import business, including: payroll, accounting, logistics, and recruitment of safe, reliable and capable individuals and businesses needed to meet the demands of servicing international trade.

Graham has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Calgary.  He grew up playing soccer, football and various water sports.  However, hockey is the sport of his family and his sport of choice.  Years of team oriented sport have attributed discipline and self motivation to this team player.

 

Bob Cantwell - Quality Control Manager

Bob Cantwell joined the Arnett & Burgess team as Quality Control Manager in January 2012.  Bob began his pipeline career over 30 years ago as a Certified Welding Technologist, working in the field as an Inspector and Auditor.  He later worked in the laboratory, conducting mechanical and destructive tests for proposed Welding Procedure Specifications and verifying their fracture toughness through Crack Tip Opening Displacement (Angle) tests.

Bob has also worked on Pipeline Integrity projects of which included pigging, correlation digs and pipeline repair.  He also held a Technicial Services Manager position, focused on in-situ welding operating high pressure gas and oil pipelines, field installation of the assembly and the hot tap procedure.

A graduate of both SAIT's Welding Engineering Technology Program and Olds College's Soil Science, specializing in Sand Based Turf Management, Bob also maintains his Canadian Welding Bureau Level II Welding Inspector Certification.

In his spare time, Bob enjoys traveling with his wife throughout North America and is a member of the Al Shamal Shrine Centre, Edmonton.

 

Cathy Forester - Managing Accountant

Cathy joined Arnett & Burgess in the Fall of 2010 as our Managing Accountant and has brought along a tremendous amount of knowledge through her several years experience in the Accounting industry.  Cathy attended NAIT, where she received her Accelerated Accounting Diploma, graduating with honors.  She then continued her education, pursuing CMA designation, of which she achieved and is certified as a CMA.

Cathy currently manages the Accounting Department's daily operations and activities at A&B.  Her proven leadership and excellent attention to detail has been reflected in a very successful team.

In her spare time, Cathy likes to keep active through spending time with her two children and their participation in a variety of sports and community events.  She also enjoys many outdoor activities and can often be found maintaining and enhancing her acreage.
